Simon Champ

CEO

Prior to joining the Newstead Capital, Simon was a founding partner of MW Eaglewood Europe LLP. During his tenure there he raised £870m of capital for P2P Global Investment Plc, the UK’s first listed investment trust dedicated to marketplace lending.

Prior to MW Eaglewood, Simon was a Director at Dresdner Kleinwort, J.P. Morgan Cazenove and most recently Liberum. As a founder and former board Director of Liberum, Simon was part of a number of transactions in the equity space and has advised many new technology companies in equity and debt raisings.

Simon has been involved in the UK marketplace lending industry as both an investor and advisor and has built extensive relationships with many of the leading marketplace lending platforms. Simon holds a B.Com. from Birmingham University.

Angus Donaldson

COO

Angus is the founder of Newstead Capital and brings over 25 years’ experience in finance and financial markets. Formerly Managing Director and head of UK Global equity sales at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, he went on to found Corin Capital, an award nominated UK long short hedge fund, which took the decision to distribute its assets shortly before the financial crisis in 2007.

Angus then became partner and portfolio manager
at Clareville Capital, whose Pegasus fund was the best performing hedge fund in Europe in 2013 and in the top 5 globally, winning awards from Eurohedge and Investors Choice.

Angus is a founder of Codec London, a cutting-edge social media marketing analytics provider. He is also a board director of Prowting Family Investments and is Chairman of Gh05t Ltd, a leading social media manager and content creation agency.

Abror Ismailov

CIO

Abror is the CIO for Newstead Capital and responsible for asset allocation and investment selection. Prior to joining the firm, Abror was a Partner and Head of Investments at the MW Eaglewood Group, where he led the pivoting of the portfolio into secured lending from 2016 onwards.

Prior to joining MW Eaglewood Group, Abror worked as a Director within Lazard’s Structured Credit Advisory group, was a Senior Portfolio Manager for Union Investment in Frankfurt, a Portfolio Manager at Cambridge Place Investment Management and held various positions within the Global
Portfolio Management Group at Deutsche Bank. In these roles, Abror has been responsible for managing over €3.5 billion of funds invested in structured credit, real estate and private equity investments.

Abror has over 17 years of experience investing in credit. Abror holds Master’s degrees in Business and Finance from University of Hamburg, University of Nantes and University of Valencia and is a CFA charterholder.

Karsten Buecker, PdD

Head of Risk

Karsten has almost 20 years of experience in financial markets. After research posts in mathematics at the universities of Grenoble I and Durham, he worked as a quantitative analyst at Maple Securities, a Canadian investment boutique, specializing in default models and structured credit.

He joined Simon’s investment team at Liberum in 2013, before becoming Head of Risk at MW Eaglewood, where he built monitoring tools and stress test models for a diverse portfolio including unsecured consumer and SME loans, mortgages, development finance and trade receivables. Karsten holds an MA and PhD from the University of Cambridge.

Nuno Vieira

Head of Operations

Nuno has over 15 years’ experience in hedge fund Operations, having worked with some of the world’s largest funds. He specialized in structured credit and derivatives at Thames River Capital and Cairn Capital. Nuno also worked for SS&C Technologies developing and customizing reconciliation software, with a focus on algorithmic trading strategies.

Prior to joining Newstead, Nuno worked at MW Eaglewood as a Head of Operations, designing and overseeing the processes and controls around a global multi-currency portfolio of 350,000 positions.
